Gifts Gone Golfing

Nice Pants by Landon Nordeman

What’s your relationship with golf? Do you play? Love someone who does? Do they wear rainbow polka dot pants? They should.

I took up the game, quite casually, about a year ago. In other words, I mostly play when we’re visiting my in-laws. I found myself more into it than I’d expected to be. Turns out golf’s a lovely cocktail of serenity and frustration, athleticism and bloody marys.

When it comes to gifts for golfers there’s an unfortunate amount of chintzy gift ideas out there. While it’s tempting to tell you all about the worst ones I’ve seen (perhaps that’s a fun post for another time), I’d rather save you time and help you out with the good stuff. Here’s a few favorite golf gifts for the linksman (or woman) in your life.

S’more Gifts for S’mores Day

S'more by David Schwen

There isn’t much better than sitting around a campfire, no laptops, no TV, just good friends, good times and of course, s’mores.

What is it that makes s’mores so awesome? Is it the crunch of the graham cracker? The smoosh of the marshmallow? Or the rich melty chocolate sandwiched inside? I think it’s the whole shebang—a combo often set aside for when we’re nestled in the woods with a flame and a stick.

In celebration of S’mores Day, here’s a s’morgasbord of gifts (see what I did there?) for roasting inside and out, at home or the campsite.

The Secret to the Perfect S’more

The Art And Science of S'mores

It’s National S’mores Day and we’d like to know, how do you take your marshmallow?

On the scale from rare to aflame, do you prefer yours barely browned and bouncy or blackened and oozy?

REI got me wondering about this and more with The Art and Science of S’mores. Did you know graham crackers were named after one Rev. Sylvester Graham? Yeah me neither.

Expressing gratitude is a gift itself. You can say thank you for a present and for a gajillion other reasons too. Like, thanks for being such a swell host in your fine town. Thanks for saving me from the side of the road when my car broke down. Thanks for the pancakes. Thanks for being awesome.

After sharing birthday cheer, the gals of Holiday Matinee are back saying thank you. Now it’s our turn. Thanks HM for inspiring creativity, for always saying “you can”, and for sharing Monique and Hannah with us on the blog this week!

Gift Packaging 101 with Joke + Sally

Packaging 101

I’ve been meaning to tell you about a fun workshop I attended this past Saturday. We’ll just call it Summer School—they do! I was pretty darn excited about it. You see, the teachers are these two talented Portland gals, Sally Shim and Joke Vande Gaer, who have a knack for making pretty heartfelt packages, turning simple gifts into beautiful gestures.

I’m so glad I went. 1) Because I hardly ever take the time to get crafty with things like glue, paint and stickers—it was so fun! 2) Because they shared sooo many great ideas. Which makes me curious, would you like to see more gift-packaging ideas here on the blog?

I’d hoped to get some great photos to share with you, but alas found myself too caught up with all the fun projects they had prepared for us. Instead I’ve put together this peek at some great ideas as shared on their blogs. Some of these are similar to those taught in the class. I love how they’re simple yet elegant, and not at all hard to do.
