Gold Leaf Cup Ornament by Flora Grubb

20 days y’all! C’mere you jolly bearded man. Let’s snuggle.

I just love this time of year, don’t you? The lights are hung, the stores look beautiful, and handmade events are popping-up everywhere. It’s a great time to get out and fall in love with some local makers.

With such a wild year nearly behind us, there’s a simple wintery style we’ve cozied up to this December—seems our favorite stores have too.

It’s a mix of woodsy natural textures, crisp whites, shimmery touches and geometric everything. Have a look at the gifts on Wantist’s page one to see what I mean.

Aren’t they lovely?

Buy It or DIY It: Dipped Gifts!

Dipped Wooden Utensils by House of Earnest

Dipped Wooden Utensils by House of Earnest

Lately dipping and dying isn’t confined to Easter eggs and Grateful Dead t-shirts. Nope, this trend is everywhere and I’m completely digging the dipping.

From fashion, to furniture, hair dos and kitchenware, a dipped pop of color plays up the original texture of each piece the paint touches—glass seems clearer, ceramics softer, metals more shiny, and woodgrain more beautiful.

As a DIY gift, adding your own dipped embellishment is a fun and relatively simple way to add a personal touch to your present. (Wink, nudge. Mom would love these!) I’ve rounded up some favorite tutorials to get you inspired and walk you through the steps to do it yourself.

If you’re not so inclined, leave the dipping to the pros. Included are some really wonderful options for you to buy and gift too. Enjoy!

MIO Sustainable Design + Beautiful Gifts

MIO Store Interior

MIO Philadelphia Store Front

With Earth Day this Sunday, I’d like to bring your attention to our wonderful sponsor, MIO! MIO is a design company and the vision of the Salm brothers—Isaac, the numbers guy, and Jaime, the design guy.

MIO creates beautiful, affordable gifts and home interior products, with an emphasis on making sustainability covetable through design.

They call it Green Desire, and it’s their guiding principle. It’s based on the idea that we should crave sustainable products out of genuine desire rather than fear, guilt or altruism. (Yes!) They’re matching our desires with what’s good for the planet, and they do an incredible job of it. Just have a look at these favorites from MIO’s collection—colorful, smart, and quite desirable.

Earth Friendly Gifts from MIO

1. Organixe Pencil Holder, 2. Square Cap Straw Hat, 3. Rider Cap Straw Hat, 4. Oval Tack Frame, 5. Beehive Softbowl, 6. Wobowl Softbowl, 7. Pop-Up Basket

Isaac and Jaime work closely with creative designers, manufacturers, engineers and business folks worldwide from their studio and storefront in Philadelphia, PA. In addition, they run CultureLab, a design consultancy within MIO that assists companies such as Target, FedEx, and Anthropologie with incorporating sustainable solutions into their business practices.

No-Carve Pumpkin Decorating made with Washi Tape

Halloween decor is so frighteningly fun! The colors, the shapes, the ghouls and the creativity are equally exciting for wide-eyed youngsters taking it all in, and kids-at-heart wishing it was still acceptable to approach your neighbor with an open bag and a smile.

Being the savvy gift-givers that we are, I thought it’d be fun to roundup some Halloween cheer with ideas you can make from your gift wrap stash, using paper, ribbons, and tape.
