Beggin’ for Bacon on Bacon Day

Savory or sweet, on its own or wrapped around a friend, infused in booze or expressed with art; it’s bacon, and it’s the best thing ever! I honor bacon at least once a week, but I’ll take any excuse to commemorate its amazingness more frequently. Well, we’re in luck, because tomorrow is Bacon Day! While you’re out celebrating the gateway meat this weekend, think about bringing some of these tasty treats with you, since there’s nothing worse than forgetting to BYOB on September 3rd!

Bacon really brightens up a room, so you’re going to want to get your hands on a few of these sizzling items. Start with a toast to bacon mania from this etched pint glass while savoring the scent of a bacon candle (made with real bacon fat). Don’t forget to keep things cozy with a decorative pillow or two, but be careful, guest envy will likely ensue!

We all know sharing is caring, so send a greeting card to a pork enthusiast, or read a salty love story with your sweetheart. Perhaps you know a wall that needs a piece of awesome art…there’s no need to be shy, say it loud and proud with me, “I LOVE BACON!”

Learn Something Every Day

Back in the day, Snapple cap facts were my fave. I mean, how else would I know that the Statue of Liberty wears a size 879 sandal? Pretty positive that wisdom will come in handy someday.

Naturally, my eyes lit up when I stumbled upon Learn Something Every Day. It’s a simple illustration project started by Young, a creative agency in the UK, and it’s easy to get lost in these drawings for hours. For instance, did you know eating bananas attracts mosquitoes or that pogonophobia is the fear of beards? Cray cray for sure.

For Awesomeness Day: An Awesome Book of Thanks!

An Awesome Book of Thanks! by Dallas Clayton

That’s right, today is The International Day of Awesomeness. “A special day to both perform and celebrate feats of awesomeness”.

Inspired by the myth of Chuck Norris and Ze Frank’s The Show (love!), this is a day we can totally get behind.

It seemed only fitting that we celebrate awesomeness expert, Dallas Clayton. We interviewed Dallas after the launch of his first book and were immediately smitten with the author, his illustrations, and his wonderful book.

He’s back with a follow up book that’s again filled with colorful drawings, heart-warming sentiments, and this time, gobs of gratitude.

Weird Al Writes a Kids’ Book

When I Grow Up by Weird Al

More proof that you’re not getting any younger—Trent Reznor wins an Oscar and Weird Al Yankovic has authored a children’s book.

Yes that wacky guy with even crazier hair, brings his rhymes and riddles to the pages of a book. When I Grow Up is a fun-filled, pun-filled story that celebrates creativity and possibility.

Hear Weird Al read from the book in this trailer:

Could Weird Al be the next Dr. Seuss? We like to think so.

A Very Merry Unvalentine’s Day

Dear Old Love by Andy Selsberg

Valentine’s Day can be an unpleasant thorn in the side of the newly single and the lonely-hearted. But as they say, laughter is the best medicine (good friends and a bottle of wine don’t hurt either).

Dear Old Love is a book of anonymous notes “to the ones who got away—or were left behind”. It’s full of wit, a little bit of rage, and guaranteed to trigger a smile.

We just so happen to know of the perfect card to go with this book, too. It was one of our picks on Cargoh earlier this week, and you can find it here.

Happy Singles Awareness Day card

Give them a dose of funny. Find out more about Dear Old Love here.
