A Fragrance Floorplan with Scents for Every Room in the House

Lafco House and Home fragrance floorplan

I’ve always had a thing for floorplans. As a kid I would ride my bike to model homes, grab the brochure, and wander the place in all its plastic-fruit glory, mostly interested in the layout of things.

In addition to floorplans I also have a thing for wonderful smells, so when I stumbled upon Lafco’s House & Home Collection of candles and their interactive fragrance floorplan things got a little silly around these parts.

It’s such a different and interesting way to interact with a candle line (of all things) and the scents are designed to complement various rooms in the home. The candles are 100% soy and beautifully boxed making them luxurious, elegant gifts.

Celery and Thyme Dining Room Candle
My favorite is so perfectly Thanksgiving and wouldn’t you know it, it’s the Dining Room candle. The scent is celery and thyme which beckons my senses at just the thought of it.

Do go play with the floorplan (I assure you that “play” is in fact the right word). And for retailers that carry every room in the house visit Candle Delirium or Candles Off Main.

Give & Tell with Geek Dad, Ken Denmead

Ken Denmead is a husband and father from the San Francisco Bay Area, where he works as a civil engineer. He’s also the editor of Wired magazine’s parenting blog, GeekDad, where along with a group of other geeky parents, he posts projects, book and movie reviews, podcasts, and more about being a parent and being a geek.

You’ve seen Ken’s work around Wantist before—he’s also the author of the Geek Dad series of books, Geek Dad, The Geek Dad’s Guide to Weekend Fun, and just released this month, The Geek Dad Book for Aspiring Mad Scientists, filled with science experiments and MacGyvery exploits for the family to do together.

Needless to say, he’s a busy guy, so I’m completely geeking out when I tell you that we snagged some of his time to Give & Tell today. Thanks Ken!

Could you share a wrapping secret with us?

My favorite tried-and-true technique is one I learned as a kid – curling ribbon with the edge of a scissors blade. But I always take it one step further. I will snip the ribbon into smaller strings, and then curl them, for a very interesting curly string effect.

Have you ever given a gift in an interesting way?

Especially with our boys, we love to do treasure hunts. And it’s a tradition in our family to put interesting clues to a gift on its tag. Sometimes they’re funny, sometimes obscure.

Lark Fine Foods Cookies for Grown-Ups

Snowballs

Russian Teacakes

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good chocolate chip cookie, but there’s also something really enjoyable about trying new flavor combinations and mixing sweet with savory.

For the sake of this post you could say that it’s the grown-up in me. But let’s not get too carried away with that kind of talk.

Lark Fine Foods artisan cookies have instilled some serious cravings for cookie flavors I’ve never tasted before.

Their ingredients are all natural and preservative free. Their cookies are award winning. And their business is run by a mother-daughter team in Essex Massachusetts. All the cookies are baked to order and neatly packaged, making them a delicious gift for foodies with a sweet tooth.

There are 8 flavors in their repertoire which creates quite the conundrum—which to try first?? I’ve narrowed my choice to the spicy chocolate Cha-Chas or the Salted Rosemary Shortbread. Decisions!
