DMTC: TikTok+LunaTik Multi-Touch Watch Kits

TikTok+LunaTik Multi-Touch Watch Kits

One of our criteria for products included on Wantist is the ability to get it today. When you need a gift you usually can’t wait too long, and while we come across some really amazing almost-there ideas coming out of the industrial design world every day, unless you can buy it, it won’t make the cut. Every so often we’d still like to share them with you, so here’s numero uno.

Our first edition of Didn’t Make the Cut (DMTC) should include a big ol “Yet” because it’s very likely they’ll be in production soon. It’s a Kickstarter project (if you don’t know what that means read here) by Chicago-based design studio MINIMAL to build premium watch bands that “transform the iPod Nano into the world’s coolest mutli-touch watches”.

Check out the video below to see more about the two versions they’ve designed, TikTok and LunaTik. If you want to get in on the ground floor, consider a pledge to be one of the first to get your hands on one of these. (They’ve already raised $231K in three days!)

This is a very cool idea and the design looks terrific. We’re particularly smitten with the LunaTik and as soon as it hits stores we’ll change this one from Yet to Yes!

TikTok will retail for $34.95 and LunaTik will retail for $69.95.

Mr Jones Watches

Mr Jones Watches tell more than time

I see a lot of watches. In the world of men’s accessories wrist-bound timepieces rank right up there next to shoes for their collectibility and instant stamp of self-expression. But let’s be honest, with your phone in your pocket, a clock in your car and one on your laptop, the purpose pendulum for watches has swayed from function on over to accoutrement. It’s jewelry, mostly.

So onward past time and on to more important things like decision making, sentimental expressions, carpe diem missives and artful commentary on the everyday.

For the last couple years Crispin Jones has been releasing his limited-edition watches in runs of 100, adding one or two designs from each series into his permanent collection every year. At the root of the design project that began in 2004 is an investigation into the cultural messages that the watches express—essentially, instead of just telling time, what else is your watch telling you?

Understated style between your palm and forearm

VOID Watches

VOID Watches and Cufflinks by David Ericsson

Some days you need to be loud. Other days though, your style is a bit more subtle—modern, with a healthy dose of reserved and powerful. VOID Watches and accessories are made for those days.

An independent brand launched last year by Swedish designer David Ericsson, the line is influenced by the simple elegance of Scandinavian design and the smooth materials of modern architecture.

Updated this summer, the VO1EL has a larger backlight display than its previous incarnation. Made of half glass, half brushed stainless steel, the LCD is set into the frame for a smooth finish. The lines are clean, the shape contemporary and the band a traditional leather—a nice juxtaposition. Five colorways are available including a new copper face, though as you can see, we’re smitten with the black.
