Ebbets Field Flannels Throwback Baseball Jerseys and Caps

Ebbets Field Flannels

With the Rangers ahead by a game, it’s time for game 6, baseball fans! We brought you a whopping collection of gifts for ball fans last week, but set Ebbets aside for a post of their own.

Ebbets Field Flannels not only has a great story, but their jerseys and ballcaps have the kind of vintage charm and style that can be worn well all year round. You won’t find shiny mesh polyester in this bunch. These are handcrafted using authentic 1950s-era wool baseball flannel.

Over twenty years ago rock-n-roller Jerry Cohen became a bit obsessed with tracking down vintage jerseys to wear to gigs. He eventually did, had a couple made for himself, and the company was born.

ABC is for Absolutely Brilliant Cards! I have a thing for Heartfish Press. I’ve posted about Hijiri and her typetastic letterpress goods before but I’ve been wanting to feature her line of Alphabet Greeting Cards for a while, and now’s the perfect time. Hijiri just welcomed a new baby girl!

Right. You’re thinking, “How is THAT the perfect time?” Well, because while the shop is taking some time off, they’re offering 20% off everything. Everything! (With code: WELCOMEBABY)

It’s a great time to stock up and pick some favorites for the coming holidays. Each card in the Alphabet line celebrates a different occasion or sentiment so there’s something for everyone, like Y, for the Year 2012. Which is almost here. I can hardly believe it.

Steve Jobs, The Biography

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

Certain to be the biography to give this holiday season, Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs was released today.

Not quite three weeks since the news of his death burst across the Internet and rattled our hearts comes an intimate book about Apple’s visionary co-founder, commissioned by Jobs seven years ago.

At the request of Jobs, Isaacson has written a bio intended not to flatter or embellish, but to speak candidly and honestly about the passions, compulsions, and intense personality that drove the creative entrepreneur.

When asked why he authorized the tell-all biography after living such a private life, “I wanted my kids to know me,” Jobs told Isaacson in their final interview at Jobs’ home, “I wasn’t always there for them, and I wanted them to know why and to understand what I did.” (Reuters)

Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than 100 family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Jobs gave the author full control over what was written, and promised “not to meddle with anything but the book’s cover.” (NY Times)

If this two-part 60 Minutes interview with Jobs biographer Walter Isaacson is any indication of the compelling read ahead, then I anxiously await a chilly weekend curled up with this book and a cup of hot chocolate.

Visit CBS.com for more about the interview and extras not included in the original broadcast.

Give & Tell with Morgan Haines

Morgan Haines

Meet the newest addition to our team! She’s a talented graphic designer and self proclaimed internet addict. She’s funny, clever, and been making me smile since the day we met. She’s also one hell of a gift hound. Check out Morgan’s first few posts on Wantist and keep an eye out for more to come. Also visit her personal blog, Internet Therapy, for tales of her love affair with Mr. Internet.

I asked Morgan to Give & Tell for us today so you could get to know her better. She was all over it. Here she is!

Tell us about a gift-giving ah-ha moment you recall.

My girlfriend and I have a running “that’s what she said” joke contest. We never tire of it and use it as often as possible. We even managed to work it into our bridesmaid speech when we co-maid-of-honored another friend’s wedding last year.

I was mindlessly browsing at Urban Outfitters the other day when I came across a book completely devoted to “that’s what she said jokes.” I instantly knew she needed to have it and snatched it up right away. I was going to wait for her birthday in December but it looks like the cat’s out of the bag now (Happy Birthday, Melissa)!

What’s your favorite reason to celebrate with a gift?

I believe the best days and ways to give gifts are the ones you give for no reason at all! I love to give gifts simply because I found something and thought someone I knew might like it. “Just because” gifts are so much more heartfelt and spontaneous than ones that you give because the holiday or birthday (or some other annual event) requires them.

Great Looking Rain Gear: Guest Post on Kirtsy!

Brittany's guest post on Kirtsy

Here in the Northwest, when temperatures drop and leaves change, so too comes the rain. Don’t get dreary, get dressed up!

Today over on Kirtsy I’ve put together a collection of great looking raincoats, umbrellas, wellies and more, with something for everyone in the family. Go see!

I’m really thrilled to be among their smart and creative contributors. It’s a world of blogger crushes over there.

Kirtsy began four years ago as a place to find and share the best of the internet. It was started by three friends, Gabrielle Blair aka Design Mom, Blog con Queso‘s Laura Mayes, and Laurie Smithwick of UpsideUP.

Their community grew, they authored a book, and started not one but two popular conferences.

Kirtsy relaunched this summer with a whole new look and an update on their original vision. It’s pretty fantastic. Each day they post “a new slideshow curated by some of the most interesting people online.” You’ll find collections of all kinds filled with art, design, products, photos, projects, even food. You’re gonna be hooked.
